Keep Utah schools focused on student success, not union agendas.

Say NO to repealing HB267.
Decline to sign the referendum.

The Matter at Hand

Teacher unions are trying to overturn HB267—a law that keeps education focused on students, not union politics.

The Background

During COVID, parents saw the truth: unions fought to keep schools closed while kids suffered. Politics took priority over learning. Students fell behind, and parents woke up.

The Hidden Agenda

They also learned something shocking: taxpayer dollars were funding union politics and pensions, not classrooms. Meanwhile, teachers who stood with parents were silenced.

The Solution

Utah lawmakers responded with HB267—a law that put kids before union power and stopped the misuse of education funds.

Now, teacher unions are trying to overturn it. They’re collecting signatures to repeal HB267 and take us back to the old system—where union bosses, not parents, control our schools.

This isn’t just about one bill.
It’s about who gets to shape your child’s education.

HB267 enjoys broad support.

A majority of Utah voters, regardless of political affiliation, back the changes introduced in the bill.
  • HB267 allows each government employee to negotiate for raises and benefits on their own behalf.
  • Ends taxpayer-funded paid leave for union activities.
  • Requires government unions to pay for spaces that others must pay for.
  • Requires unions to report to the state labor commission the money they spend on political activities and the number of members.
  • Provides professional liability insurance for teachers.
  • Maintains government employees’ ability to join a union and participate in union activities.
  • Requires government unions to get employees’ permission to deduct union dues from their paychecks.

HB267 keeps union politics out of schools, ensuring that resources, transparency, and teacher empowerment serve one purpose--supporting students and their success.

UEA’s Agenda: Power, Politics, and Paychecks—Not Students or Teachers

Teacher unions are not focused on student success, fair teacher pay, or acknowledging that Utah now ranks second in the nation for starting salaries. Every one of these achievements happened in spite of their opposition.

Their push to overturn HB267 isn’t about helping teachers or students—it’s about protecting their power over Utah’s education system. They want to continue to:
  • Use taxpayer dollars to fund union activities
  • Avoid transparency about their political involvement
  • Force their social justice agenda into Utah schools (see here)

The UEA actively promotes DEI initiatives that many parents see as contrary to Utah's values. They even dedicate an entire page on their website to social justice activism while training teachers in these ideologies. These union-backed educators then bring political agendas into the classroom, prioritizing activism over academic excellence. Their focus isn't on improving education - it's on pushing their ideology.

The values of the UEA and NEA go against what’s best for students and parents.

UEA President Renée Pinkney speaks at a rally at the Utah State Capitol, backed by political flags—not parents or teachers. The UEA has opposed school choice, curriculum transparency, and parental rights, while pushing agendas that leave parents out and politicize the classroom. (Image via the UEA website. Used under fair use for commentary and criticism.)
Parents, teachers, and students across Utah are pushing back as the UEA and NEA promote political agendas that push parents out and indoctrinate kids. These unions support things like sex ed without opt-outs, gender transitions at school without parental consent, using union dues for political causes, and removing school resource officers. They oppose school choice, curriculum transparency, and giving parents a real voice in their child’s education.

The truth is, unions aren’t putting kids first—they act like they know better than parents. Utah families deserve better. It’s time for an education system that listens to parents and puts students first.

Parents vs. the Union: Who’s Putting Kids First?

UEA Opposes Parents Support

Reducing DEI and CRT in schools Academics focused on unity, not division
School choice options Freedom to choose the best education for each child
Keeping schools open during COVID In-person learning and educational consistency

UEA’s Ties to the NEA: Funding a Political Agenda

The UEA is directly connected to the National Education Association (NEA), the nation’s largest teachers' union. Each year, the UEA funnels money to the NEA, helping fund its political activities.

The NEA is not just a teachers’ organization—it’s a political entity that pushes a national agenda, often at odds with parental rights. They actively undermine parental influence in education, advocate for controversial policies, and prioritize politics over student success.

By supporting the UEA, teachers are forced to contribute to the NEA’s political machine, whether they agree with its agenda or not.
Watch the video above and ask yourself:
  • Does the NEA’s agenda reflect your values?
  • Does it reflect the values of Utah's teachers?
  • NEA President Becky Pringle’s recent speech raises a critical question: Do we want this ideology shaping our children’s education?

Until HB267, our tax dollars helped fund the UEA, which funneled money to the NEA—a political organization working to undermine parental influence in education. HB267 is crucial to ending the power and influence of teacher unions on Utah's schools. It's time to put kids first and focus our tax dollars and resources on creating an education system that prioritizes student success, rewards great teachers, and keeps political agendas out of the classroom.

We’re looking for volunteers to make a few quick phone calls to voters who signed the petition—just to share the facts and ask if they’d consider removing their name. If you’re willing to help, sign up below.

UEA Fought Against Teacher Pay Raises—Utah Lawmakers Delivered Anyway

HB267 isn’t just good for students—it’s good for teachers, too. By removing union roadblocks, it ensures that great educators are valued, fairly compensated, and empowered to do what they do best: teach.

For years, Utah’s legislature prioritized teacher pay, but much of the funding was diverted to administration. The unions, despite claiming to advocate for teachers, failed to stop this misuse, so lawmakers bypassed districts to ensure teachers receive direct, consistent raises every year.

It’s revealing that Utah's teacher union, the UEA, opposed the 2023 and 2024 bills that provided direct pay raises for teachers. In 2025 lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to teachers and student success, elevating Utah to 2nd in the nation for starting teacher salaries and 26th for overall pay—all done without UEA support.
